Baby Room Inspiration and Wish List

Image
I thought I would share some images of baby rooms that are inspiring me these days. They are decorated in ways I would consider and have a lovely feel of not being out of a bag or from Walmart or any other "nursery in a bag" monstrosity. I've been painting some art work for the bare white walls and have been searching for some art online that I would LOVE to add to the room. I also plan to do some fun lighting in there since apparently in suburbia they do not believe in overhead lighting. Here are some links that are inspiring, followed by some items on our baby's room wish list: Inspiring Rooms: http://www.flickr.com/photos/powerjen/1209245752/ http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/inspiration/a-beautiful-nursery-made-up-of-ikea-etsy-and-thrifted-items-075649 http://www.shoppingfortwo.com/blog/nursery-inspiration-elsie/ http://lauragunn.typepad.com/paintinmyhair/2008/01/h-is-for-harris.html On our Wish List: this lovely art print by the lovely Mati found here . *love* thi

Lemon Shortbread

I found this recipe earlier this week for shortbread and it looked so delicious, I had to try it. I made some Saturday night and it is ever bit as delicious as it looks. I, of course, made it gluten free with a minor adjustment based on another person's review of it and have included in bold the correct gf adjustments. Here is the recipe and extra instructions directly from Piece of Cake 's blog post on it: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Tartine shortbread recipe is so easy you might wonder if you've suddenly taken a wrong page turn into another cookbook. But that's just the kind of baby step I needed to get back into the kitchen. The simple ingredient list and method yields a shortbread cookie so tender and buttery, it's practically restorative. Well, it was for me, anyway, because it got me back to tying my apron strings after a long hiatus, and even sparked some extra creative energy, like ad

Progress

All of that lovely yarn I bought a couple of weeks ago is getting put to use and this blanket is coming along nicely. I'm loving the colors together and really appreciating their brightness during these dreary winter days. Looking forward to a snuggly summer baby to wrap up in this blanket. I catch myself wondering what he/she will look like wrapped up in it! I'm nearly 1/3 of the way through it, in the end there will be 3 stripes of each color. Moving right along and dreaming up other possibilities for the baby's room. XO Meg

Moon Pics

Image
Yes, i am going to inflict my hobby on all of you. i captured some photos of the eclipse from a few weeks ago and i am finally getting around to posting them. i was also playing around with the "tethering" function of Aperture which allows me to remote control my Nikon D60 Camera (from my Mac), so i was able to get some nice photos of the moon tonight up close and personal. Let me know what you think! And my personal favorite: -Dustin B

Home Tour - Bed Room

Image
Here is the second installment of our home tour. This is our master bedroom. Again, apologies for the glowing white windows. Photographing against them is terrible. (Seriously seeing these photos only makes the excessive white walls seem awful. May need to rethink the painting thing!) It's a nice big space and it feels so luxurious after the tiny space we came from in downtown Denver in our loft! Looking towards our master bathroom. We are so thrilled to have more than one bathroom and really enjoy the double sinks. It's ridiculous how nice it is to have more than one sink. I hung our wedding photos above the dresser on the wall yesterday after taking this picture so I'll have to get a photo of those sometime. They look really nice *finally* framed and hanging (3 years after our wedding!). Looking to our walk-in closet. The size of it really is almost excessive but I'm thankful that we don't have it jammed full of stuff like the previous people did! The door on the

Home Tour- Living Room

Image
So I thought I would put together a post of some photos of our new place but instead I've decided to do a home tour room by room. So to start off, for those of you wondering what our new space looks like, here is the first of a few posts beginning with our living room. My apologies for the glowing white windows. White blinds are impossible to photograph. (looking down from the dining room and kitchen) The living room is definitely an interesting shape so it's been a challenge to get our furniture in comfortably. This is what we came up with. (We usually keep the blinds open more but with a blanket of white snow outside the window it posed for an impossible photo shoot so I closed them up - we're not really hermits). (looking at the front door and entry way) It's my hope in the next few months to combat some of the stark white with some orange curtains possibly. It's a LOT of (too much) white wall for me. If I had more energy I'd really consider painting but ther

From the Front Door

Image
It's snowing - HARD - and it is so beautiful. This is looking out our front door at the brownstones across the street. We moved to a brownstone community in the suburbs a few weeks ago and it's really a lovely place to live. It has a unique feeling of a hint of NY with a hint of San Fran, with a major Colorado suburbia twist to it. They are townhomes and each building has a different feel and cute character to it. It's really great to be within walking distance to a ton of shops and local boutiques. For being suburbia, I think we'll be here a while. I'm working on getting the inside settled enough to do a photo tour for you to see inside our new place. Hopefully this week. Anyway, we're in and enjoying the beauty of the snow today. Hope you are having a nice weekend too! XO Meg

Colors For the Baby's Room

Image
We chose colors for the baby's room this week. I started knitting a baby blanket this week that will be using this yarn. These will be the colors in the baby's room along with some chocolate brown. I love the names of the yarn colors: "Lemongrass and Aloe." In case it's hard to tell, its a very yellowy-lime green and an aqua blue. Many people have asked me about a "theme" for the baby's room. Well, to be honest, I'm not really the "theme" type. I don't really decorate that way. So there will be no theme to speak of but I will be collecting pieces of art for the room that I love. No animal or event or iconic themes for me. Nothing that looks straight off the shelves of a chain store. But I'm looking forward to maybe even making some art for the baby's room. I'm really enjoying this time post-holiday chaos to really start to think about the baby. Almost half way! XO Meg
