IRELAND days 10-14

Countryside on our drive from east coast to west coast. This was some of the prettiest scenery we saw on a lovely day.

Little towns just spring up out of nowhere. Cute and such a sweet place to live.

This is a police car. On our whole trip driving the entire southern half of Ireland, I think we saw 3 police (Garda) cars total.

Funny sign: no horse drawn carriages on the highway. You'd be surprised how often you see horse drawn carriages in Ireland. Funny to see them banned from highways, you know, where you're driving 120km/hr.

The streets of downtown Ennis, County Clare, our third and final destination stay. We really enjoyed our time on this side of Ireland.

Driving along the coast of Doolin towards The Burren. Gorgeous scenery and was a very nice drive.

Driving through The Burren

Really pretty.

Literally driving along the coast through The Burren.

Bunratty Castle, possibly our favorite of all 4 of the castles we visited while in Ireland. Sits in the middle of a village and folk park. Built in the year 1425!

Much of the castle has been restored and includes artifacts like French tapestries and furniture.

Bunratty from the outside. Very impressive!

Two days before we left, we spent a day taking a ferry to the Aran Islands (Inisheer Island was the only one we got to see). While we were waiting for the ferry, this dolphin appeared and was swimming with people right off the side of the pier. It was literally only about 20ft away from us. We watched it swim for almost an hour. People were diving off the pier and swimming with and petting the dolpin. It was really amazing.

Julian really loved riding the ferry to the islands. It was cold but he really loved it.

Julian loving the ferry ride with Shane.

The shipwreck along the coast of Inisheer. Hard to tell, but that ship was thrown way up on the side of the shore.

The story of MV Plassey and how the boat was washed ashore. We walked at least 2 miles each way around the island to see the boat up close. Shane and Dustin spent an hour climbing in the rusted ship.

The coast of Inisheer. Dustin climbed down between the rocks and found this lovely beach area and caves. Really pretty. The water along the coast is turquoise. Gorgeous.

Dustin and I standing on the rocks along the edge of the ocean on Inisheer.

The last day of our trip we visited the famous Cliffs of Moher. It was by far my favorite part of the trip. We went at about 5:30pm and the sun was just starting to skim the water. This is looking out from the cliffs into the ocean and I love to see the horizon line.

The Cliffs of Moher. 390ft above the Atlantic Ocean.

Amazing.

At the entrance of the cliffs.

This last leg of the trip was probably our favorite part of the trip. We really loved County Clare. We enjoyed our stay at the B&B in Ennis very much and got to have a lot of leisure time during this part of the trip. We did a lot of driving to the coast and enjoyed the food in Ennis very much. Julian did so great over the course of the whole trip. He did amazingly well on the plane rides. It was such a relief to have people compliment us on how well he did after each flight. The trip home was an 18hr trip and it was a miracle we all survived it. The trip already feels like a distant memory even though it was only a month ago. What an amazing adventure we had! XO, Meg
