IRELAND days 6-10

After arriving on the east coast of Ireland, we drove south to County Wicklow along the coast. The drive went from lush green Ireland to mountain ranges. This photo shows just how quickly the terrain would change.

Typical Ireland with sheep. They really are everywhere.

All of a sudden, the mountain ranges spit us out into this valley just before we arrived in Wicklow.

The town of Wicklow.

After Wicklow, we drove to Glendalough. (Interesting story, really worth clicking the links and reading more about it). It is a very high traffic tourist site. This is the Round Tower.

Hollywood, County Wicklow. Population of around 100 people. Kinda funny to see "Hollywood" on the side of the hill with sheep all around it.

This is taken in the town of Naas, County Kildare, where we stayed at a B&B. Even in town, there are ruins set right among the modern town. This town felt very European.

We rode the bus to Dublin!

On the campus of Trinity College. We could have spent so many more hours exploring this campus. It is one of the seven ancient universities of Britain and Ireland.

The River Liffey that splits Dublin.

The Ha'penny Bridge - a cast iron pedestrian bridge built in 1816 and still (heavily) used today.

Temple Bar - unique for keeping it's narrow cobble stone streets and lively night life. Sort of the "French Quarter" of Dublin if you will.

We stayed at another B&B in Naas which was fun. The town felt very European and it was really nice to see so many children and babies everywhere we went. We really liked our time in Dublin, even though it was only an afternoon. We rode the bus from Naas to Dublin (about 45min ride each way) and then walked miles around Dublin. Julian was a rock star on this really long day. It would be some place in Ireland that I'd like to see more of if the opportunity ever arises to go back. Our friends Shane and Briana who went with us to Ireland split off from this part of the trip and drove north to Bellfast and saw Northern Ireland. We opted not to drive that much and went from Naas back to the west coast to Ennis where they joined back up with us a few days later. More on that portion in the next and final post. XO, Meg
